DecisionPathHR Sponsors Cabarrus County CTE "Fab Lab" Internship Program for Second Straight Year

Each year Cabarrus County CTE puts together a summer internship opportunity for high school students who have a passion for engineering. The program, known as the NAF Future Ready Lab, intends to give rising juniors and seniors who are involved in Cabarrus County’s NAF Academies the tools to gain hands-on experience in a real-world job setting while giving back to their community by designing and printing 3D assistive devices for people with disabilities.

DecisionPathHR, a staffing and recruiting firm, is excited to partner with Cabarrus County CTE for the second year, providing interviews and assisting the faculty in the process of selecting which interns will be accepted to participate. Recruiters from DecisionPathHR sat down with 30 students and used their expertise to accept the 25 best applicants.

In order for the students to get the most out of the internship, DecisionPathHR’s Mickey Smith will act as the Intern Hiring Lead to support the students. In this role he will administer performance reviews, make sure they clock in/out on time, and perform other tasks you would typically see out of an HR Manager. The goal is for the interns to get a better understanding of what the workplace is like and learn some of their strengths and weaknesses along the way. Through this partnership with the Corning Foundation, S&D Coffee & Tea and DecisionPath, students are able to experience many aspects of the career world and learn to develop those critical soft skills needed to become a successful employee.

Mickey Smith, Researcher
"DecisionPathHR helps the students learn how to work in a business environment and assists with written evaluations of each intern. With our experience in identifying talent and human resource management, we are well-equipped to help the interns prepare for their working future. We could not be happier to sponsor an event that is so beneficial to students and we really enjoy the time we get to spend with Cabarrus County CTE."

As part of this sponsorship, Corning and DecisionPathHR representatives went to Orlando, Florida earlier this year to attend the NAF Future Ready Lab regional training. There, the reps from each company were able to get a better idea of what the NAF Academy is and how it provides high school students across the country the opportunity to get real world work experience that coincides with their classroom studies.

DecisionPath has served on the Advisory Board for the Academy of Engineering & Automation for over three years. Through this partnership, they provide high school students information about industry trends and help to bridge the gap between school and career.
